Our Story

30 Years Of Fencing
In Los Angeles.

Beverly Hills Fencers' Club was founded 30 years ago by Margo Miller as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting fencing and developing athletes at every stage of the sport.

Today, BHFC welcomes complete beginners, recreational fencers, children and teens, adult athletes, and serious competitors in a facility dedicated to fencing. Our coaching staff brings national and international experience, and every BHFC coach is USFA and Safe Sport certified.

New fencers do not need to purchase a full kit immediately. BHFC loans beginner equipment for the first month, then helps families and adults transition to their own equipment through our recommended vendor.

Certified Coaching All BHFC coaches are USFA + Safe Sport certified.

The Weapon We Fence

About Épée

É

The épée, pronounced “EPP-pay,” is the descendant of the dueling sword. It is similar in length to the foil but heavier, at approximately 27 ounces, with a larger guard and a stiffer blade.

Touches are scored only with the point of the blade, and the entire body is a valid target area. That makes sound defense especially important because every part of the body must be protected.

Full Body Target Point Only No Right-Of-Way
01
How Épée Is Scored

First Touch Wins The Point.

No Right-Of-Way The first fencer to land the touch earns the point.
Double Touches Count If both hit within 1/25th of a second, both receive a point.
Electric Scoring The spring-loaded tip activates after more than 750 grams of pressure.
No Lamé Required The entire body is valid target, so épée does not use a conductive lamé.
Simple Rule. Endless Strategy. →
